So, I wrote a tumblelog
But if you call it that, I’m gonna puke. May I present to you Thought Stream. Doesn’t that sound nicely removed from any sort of Web 2.0 jargon? Anyways, I’ll upload the code tomorrow night, there’s two things I need to fix first.
I kept reading about the planned release of a Tumblelog built in Rails, so I figured I’d end the suspense after two hours of putzing around with my iBook.
I also said I’d write a blog app in 100 lines of code, but according to the rake stats the project is already at 170, and there’s still some things I want to add. Oh well.
Quick notes:
- It’s extremely minimal, I like it that way
- I made a day controller because I was too lazy to figure out how to write the SQL to lump together thoughts written on the same day
- It has an RSS feed
- There is no license because a monkey could have written this, do with it what you will. (But at least let me know if you do something cool with it and let me see the code!)
- I’m going to add the ability to comment shortly. I find myself annoyed that I can’t make a remark about something on project.ioni.st from time to time. You’ll be able to comment per day, not per thought, as not to clutter up the page.
- Update: I didn’t really think about it, but it supports multiple bloggers as well. Limiting a user from editing and deleting another user’s thoughts is trivial if there’s a demand for it.
PS. If you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about when I say tumblelog, it’s a new term to represent an informal blog. The posts are more like snippets of something interesting you’ve come across as opposed to well thought out articles. I like the concept, because I don’t always care to write something particularly meaningful, but I would like to make note of it.
